Martin P. “Marty” Allstrom, 84, of Iron Mountain, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at ManorCare Health Services in Kingsford. Marty was born on April 3, 1934 in Iron Mountain, son of the late Harry and Myrtle (Ring) Allstrom. He was raised in Iron Mountain and graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1952.

Marty joined the United States Army and served in Germany from 1958 to 1960. He worked as a plumber and pipefitter locally, primarily as owner of Martin Allstrom Plumbing. He also worked at Champion Paper Mill in Quinnesec, MI and as a plumbing inspector for the City of Iron Mountain.

He has been a member of the U.P. Plumbers & Pipefitters Union, U.S. Local 111, for over 60 years. Marty married Janice Bettiga on June 8, 1963 at St. Mary’s Church in Norway, MI. Janice preceded him in death in 2015.

He was a member of the U.P. Pipefitters Union and Pine Grove Country Club. He enjoyed golfing with his friends, woodcarving, gardening, hunting, and construction projects. Marty also loved to read, especially about history, and spoke fluent Swedish.

In addition to his parents and wife Janice, he was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Allstrom. Marty is survived by his daughters, Ann Marie Allstrom of Royal Oak, Michigan and Wendy Allstrom-Ried of Madison, Wisconsin. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Jessica Ann Conklin (Ried) of Wilmington, North Carolina.

Private family services will be held in the Spring. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park. Condolences to the family of Martin Allstrom may be expressed online at www.
