Obituary for Marvin Ray Marvin James Ray July 8, 1933 – July 14, 2018 Marvin James Ray, 85, of Orondo, WA, went peacefully to be with the Lord at his home, surrounded by his loving family on July 14, 2018. He was born July 8, 1933, in Backus, MN, to Lawrence and Dora (Drinkall) Ray. In 1940 they moved to Cashmere, WA.

He attended Cashmere schools, graduating in 1953. He was active in track and field where he held school records for over 30 years in the mile and javelin throw. Up until April 2018 he was still able to run a 12-minute mile at the age of 84.

In 1955 he was drafted into the Navy and served with the Seabees in the Philippines. He was united in marriage to Jeannine Griggs on December 28, 1966. They made their first home in Cashmere and moved to Orondo in 1973.

He resided there until his passing. He was an orchardist in addition to his excavation business. He was a member and volunteer of the Chelan County Sheriff’s posse and Douglas County Fire District 4 Orondo.

He was also an active volunteer with the Orondo Community Church and the Orondo Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. He loved his family, working in the orchard, hunting and sharing his collection of jukeboxes with visitors.

He is survived by his daughter, Betsy (Boyd) Irmer, of Waterville, WA; granddaughter, Lexi Ann; grandson, Dusty James; brother, Fred Ray, of Everett, WA; sister, Norma (Glen) Hendrickson, of Cashmere, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews. Marvin was preceded in death by his wife Jeannine; his son, Jeffrey Scott; daughter, Marcella Bernice; his parents, Lawrence and Dora Ray; his brothers, Robert and Wallace and sister, Laura Wentworth. A Commemoration Service will be held Saturday, July 21, 2018, at 2:00 p. m. at the Orondo Community Church with interment to follow at the Orondo Cemetery.

Viewing will be held from 5 to 8 pm on Friday, July 20, 2018 at Heritage Memorial Chapel, located at 19 Rock Island Road, East Wenatchee. You are invited to view Marvin’s online tribute at www. HeritageMemorialChapel.com and share a memory or leave a comment.
