Obituary for Mary Jo & Charles West Mary Josephine (Maddy) West (1938 – 2017) Mary Josephine (Maddy) West, 79, of Weller, Iowa, passed away at 7:58 AM Sunday, September 10, 2017 in Mesa, AZ. She was born July 11, 1938 in Weller, Iowa to Russell Maddy and Bernadette (Heyland) Maddy. She married Charles Roger West of Russell, Iowa on July 13, 1957 and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 13, 2017.

Mary Jo enjoyed working at John Deere in Ankeny, IA and Intel in Chandler, AZ until retirement in Gilbert, AZ. She also enjoyed camping, boating, softball, Weller picnics, dancing, discovering garage sales, sewing, toll painting for their many treasures to sell at the swap meets on weekends. Charles Roger West (1936 – 2018) Charles Roger West, age 82, also known as Chuck or Roger by friends and family, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 23, 2018, in Des Moines, IA, surrounded by family and friends.

After the passing of his wife, Mary Jo, Chuck moved from Mesa, AZ, to Des Moines, IA, and started to reacclimate to Iowa winters, met new neighbors who became friends, and enjoyed many family visits/activities. However, after 4 months in Iowa, it was time for Chuck to rejoin Mary Jo. Chuck was born January 6, 1936, in Russell, Iowa, to Charles J West and Edna (Jennings) West.

He married Mary Jo Maddy on July 13, 1957, at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Weller, IA. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on July 13, 2017. Together, Chuck and Mary Jo were loving parents and raised a close-knit family of four daughters.

Chuck enjoyed working in the trucking industry at International Harvester, Massey Ferguson, Housby Mack, and Arizona Mack until retirement in Gilbert, AZ, when he and Mary Jo formed a successful woodworking business. Through their lives, they enjoyed various activities including dancing, Weller picnics, morel mushroom hunting, softball, basketball, camping, boating/waterskiing, running their woodworking business, finding garage sale bargains, and playing UNO/cards with friends. Together Chuck and Mary Jo, raised a close-knit family of four daughters Cindy (Dave) Wilson of Longmont, Cheryl McCann of Ankeny, Cathy (Kevin) Lehman of Ankeny, and Sharon Lafferty of Loveland; 10 grandchildren: Erin (Ben) Wilson, Anne Wilson, Matthew (Sarah) McCann, Jami (Matt) McCann, Ryan (Amanda) McCann, Danielle Albaugh, Calen Lehman, Torie Lehman, Cory Lafferty, Renee (Tanner) Lafferty; 8 great grandchildren: Madison, Marissa, Marcus, Rylin, Addison, August, Kiegan and Mason.

Mary Jo, remained close to her siblings Dorothy Parker of Des Moines, Iowa and Bill (Patti) Maddy of Ankeny, Iowa, along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Chuck is also survived by his brother, Richard, and his wife Pam West. A joint Celebration of Life service and burial of their cremated remains will be held at St Mary’s Cemetery in Weller, Iowa, on Saturday, June 16th at 11:00am, with Father Mark Yates, officiating.

A buffet luncheon will be held afterwards at Holiday Inn at 1050 6th Ave, Des Moines, IA 50314. Memorials may be made to St George Roman Catholic Church, 300 E 16th Ave, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. A joint Celebration of Life service for both Chuck and Mary Jo Saturday, June 16th at 11:00am held at St Mary’s Cemetery in Weller, Iowa To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Mary Jo & Charles West please visit our Sympathy Store.
