Mary Lee Schmal, age 87, of Evansville, IN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at the Evansville Protestant Home. Mary was born May 27, 1931, in Cincinnati, OH, to the late Armin V. and Gladys (Mills) Schmal. Mary was member of First Southern Baptist Church.

She taught Sunday School, English as a Second Language to anyone who wanted to come to the church and learn (free), and Spanish to those that participated in FSBC Summer Mission trips to Mexico. Mary is a graduate of Philadelphia College of the Bible (Philadelphia, PA), University of Cincinnati, and Costa Rica Language School. She was an Associate University Professor at the University of Puerto Rico and China.

Mary taught at Central American Mission in Guatemala, University of Puerto Rico, Pillsbury Bible College in Minnesota, and Chan-Aung University in China. Mary’s motto: “Where He leads me, I will follow”. She is survived by her brother, Robert F. Schmal of Aurora, CO; niece, Lollyne Stewart (Dan) of Aurora, CO; nephew, David (Shushawn) of Lynchburg, VA; 5 grand nephews and nieces; 4 great grand nephews and nieces.

A special thank you to everyone at the Evansville Protestant Home for their care the past few years. Also, to Heritage Hospice, especially to Sonja and Emilee for their loving care the final days of her life. Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 24, 2018 at First Southern Baptist Church at 25 S. Cullen Avenue with Pastor David Cullison and Pastor Don Moore officiating.

Burial will be Private. Friends may visit from 1:30 p.m. until service time, Sunday, June 24, 2018 at First Southern Baptist Church. Memorial Contributions may be made to: First Southern Baptist Church – Ryan Brock Mission Fund.

Arrangements are being handled by BOONE FUNERAL HOME EAST CHAPEL – A Family Tradition Funeral Home, 5330 Washington Avenue, Evansville.
