Obituary for Mary Louise Dietz Mary Louise Dietz, 102 and a 1/2, of Botkins, died 2:30 p.m. Thurs. Sept. 13, 2018, at the Fair Haven Nursing Home, Sidney, OH.

She was born March 4, 1916, in Uniopolis, OH, the daughter of T. Reed & Theresa (Weber) Carter, who preceded her in death. On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24, 1938, she married Eugene Dietz, who preceded her in death on May 13, 1994.

Survivors include, 3 daughters, Nancy (William) King, Bluffton, SC, Debra (Barry) Muskus, Lima, OH, Karen (Les) Fogt, Anna, OH, 8 grandchildren, Kyle (Paula) Zepernick, Rebecca (Mike) Maloney, Anne (Marco) Zepernick, Melissa (Roger) Shropshire, Kendra Fogt, Erik (Melissa) Fogt, Cynthia (Jason) Oakley, Jennifer (Adam) Watters, 2 step-grandchildren, Glenn (April) King, Christopher (Mirelle) King, 14 great grandchildren, Kendall & Casey Zepernick, Annabel & Natalie Shropshire, Adelaide & Ronan Maloney, Jordan, Carter, & Taylor Watters, Michael Oakley, Weslee, Ayva, Morgan, & Aubrey Fogt, 2 step great grandchildren, Ashleigh King & Kayla Oakley, a brother, Joseph Carter, a sister-in-law, Virginia Poeppelman, She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dietz, a daughter, Joan Zepernick Spence, a grandson, Jeffrey Muskus, a great grandson, Jacob Oakley, a sister, Ruth (Robert) Barhorst, a brother, Robert (Jeanette) Carter, brother & sister-in-laws, Ruth Carter, Leon (Genieve) Etgen, Henrietta (Joe) Knopp, Rosella (Clarence) Martin, Charles (Erma) Dietz, Clifford (Grace) Dietz, Luella (Dan) Murphy, and Wilbur Poeppelman. Mrs. Dietz was the oldest living member of the Immaculate Conception Church, Botkins. She was a member of the church’s Parish Renew Program, Altar Rosary Sodality, and the Knights of St. Johns Auxiliary #173.

In 2011 she was honored during the church’s 150th anniversary for being the oldest parishioner by getting to blow the out the candles on the cake. She has also received the honor of being the oldest lady at the Shelby County Fair for the past 3 years. In 1935 Mary graduated from Blume High School in Wapakoneta, went on to practice nursing in Cincinnati, and was there during the Great Flood of 1937.

Her hobbies included gardening, cooking, and playing cards. She made a career involving two of them. She raised vegetable and flower plants which she sold from her home.

Later she cooked at the Botkins School Cafeteria and also cooked for many wedding dinners. Mary loved her family and traveling. They went on many family trips.

She had traveled to 49 states, but never made it to the state of Maine. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Tues. Sept.

18, 2018, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Botkins, OH, Fr. Jarred Kohn officiating. Burial will follow in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Botkins.

The family will receive friends from 2-8 Mon. at the Long & Folk Chapel, 13 South Blackhoof Street, Wapakoneta. Memorials may be directed to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Fair Haven Nursing Home, or Wilson Health Hospice.
