Maxine E. Shafer, age 71, of Alexandria, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at Elwood Health and Living Center. She was born on January 12, 1948, to the late James Reed and Geneice Stevens. On November 24, 1999 she married Bruce Shafer.

Maxine retired from Walmart where she had worked for more than 20 years most recently as a Manger of the Seafood Department. She was a member of Cornerstone Community Church in Alexandria. Maxine is survived by her husband, of 19 years, Bruce Shafer of Alexandria, 2 step-sons, Zach Shafer and Cody Shafer, siblings, Otis Jacobson, Vickie Jacobson, John Martin Jacobson, Betty Vandiver, Georgeanna Smith, and George Ponder.

Maxine was preceded in death by her father, James Reed, mother, Geneice Ponder, and brother, Rick Stevens. Per Maxine’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time. Dunnichay Funeral Home was entrusted with Maxine’s arrangements.
