Gathering of friends and family will be an hour before service time. Burial of ashes will be in Grand Island City Cemetery beside his beloved mother and father. Mike was born in Grand Island on July 15, 1949, the son of Robert W. and Ellen (Kallos) Parmley.

He was raised in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1967. Mike attended Kearney State College and the University of Nebraska Lincoln, graduating with a degree in Physical Education. While in college he competed in track and field-pole vaulting and was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.

Shortly after graduation, Mike made his way to California where he landed a job with the city of Los Angeles as a Parks and Recreations Director in Woodland Hills and finished his career in Pacific Palisades. After 20 years of employment with the city of Los Angeles, he decided to retire, returning to Grand Island in 1995. Even though Mike was a Nebraska Kid at heart California became his home.

He was joined in L.A. by some of his best friends and classmates, having the best time of his life. He loved going to Dodger games, hanging out at the beach, spending the weekend in Mexico, and having a cold “Coors” beer. Mike will be remembered as a big-hearted guy who made friends wherever he went and was loved by all.

He was a sports advocate who liked to stay in shape, toss the ball around with his nieces and nephews, play the guitar and attend a Huskers game whenever he got the chance. Survivors of his immediate family include two brothers, Robert M. (Paula) Parmley of Chandler, AZ and David J. (Dianne) Parmley of Grand Island; and sister, Cynthia Arnold of Grand Island. Also left to cherish his memory are seven nieces and nephews, Robert W. Parmley of Tempe, AZ, Christina Jokerst of Olathe, KS, Jill McGreer of Omaha, NE, Mike Parmley of Grand Island, Alaina Parmley of Grand Island, David Arnold of Lincoln, and Jeff Arnold of Lincoln.
