Michel’s Obituary Michel Calvin Cooper, QMC SS (RET), 84 of Groton died Sunday January 20, 2019 at the Groton Regency Center after a long illness. He was born November 13, 1934 in Matador, Texas to Virgle and Vesta (Ray) Cooper. He graduated from Eastern Connecticut State University.

He joined the US Navy and had a 26 year career until his retirement. Mike was a member of the Fleet Reserve and Sub Vets. On December 1, 2014 the City of Groton recognized Mike with a Proclamation of Michel C. Cooper Day for his 10 years of dedication as a volunteer Amateur Radio Operator Emergency Management.

Mike married the former Helen Krupczak. They have been married for 58 years, she survives him. Mike is also survived by Son: Brian Cooper; Daughters: Suzanne (Mike) Zito, Cathleen (Jeremy ) Cooper Zimmerman and Annmarie Hovey; Brothers: Melvin (Clydene) Cooper, Chester Cooper; Sister: Norma Faye Stoneman; Sister in Law: Norma Chloe Cooper; 7 Grandchildren and 1 Great Grandchild.

He was preceded in death by Brother: James Cooper; Sisters: Vernell Hanna and Martha Cooper. As per Mike’s wishes, services and burial with military honors at Starr Burying Ground in Groton were private.
