Mildred’s Obituary Mildred I. “Milly” Alexander, 85, of Gibson City, formerly of Elliott, passed away 11:57 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at Helia Healthcare, Champaign. Funeral services will be 12:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2019, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells, Paxton with Rev. James C. Elder officiating.

Burial will follow in Elliott Cemetery, Elliott. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home. Milly was born May 6, 1933 in Berea, KY the daughter of Charles R. and Mildred F. Paxton Cottrell.

Milly spent her childhood in Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School in 1951. She married Donald E. Alexander December 21, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Paxton. He preceded her in death July 1, 2018.

She is survived by two sons, Bob (Lynette) Alexander of Gibson City, Doug Alexander of Bloomington; two daughters, Nancy (Dan) Hiner of Champaign, Linda (Paul) Smith of Mattoon; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and one brother, Bob Cottrell of Satellite Beach, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Mark Alexander; and one brother, Dick Cottrell. Milly worked at the United States Postal Service for 21 years, the last 13 she served as postmaster in Elliott before retiring in 1992.

She was a member of the Wesbein United Methodist Church, Saybrook and the National Association of Postmasters of the United States. Milly enjoyed knitting, playing golf and traveling. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
