Betty’s Obituary Betty Jane Plath, 83 of Gibson City, a former Buckley resident, died at 5:45 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2019, at Villas of Holly Brook, Gibson City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 206 E. Main Street, Buckley with Rev. J. Kevin Wyckoff and Rev.

Timothy Hahn officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery, Buckley. Visitation will be two hours before the service from 11 – 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Baier Family Funeral Services, Buckley is handling arrangements. Betty was born January 7, 1936 in Buckley the daughter of Theodore and Bertha Hogrefe Ennen. She married Russell Plath November 3, 1956 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley.

He survives. Along with her husband, Russ, she is survived by a daughter Melinda (Mark) Piper of Champaign; a son, Randy (Annette) Plath of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren, Alexa Waller, Taylor Waller, Kevin Plath, Kristine Plath, Ryan Plath; three step grandsons, Derek Piper, Josh Piper, Chris Piper; four great grandchildren, Parker Odom, Reagan Odom, Katie Morenz and Camdyn Piper. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and seven sisters.

Betty graduated from Buckley-Loda High School in 1953. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley and an active member of St. John’s Ladies Aid, Buckley American Legion Auxiliary and Iroquois County Historical Society. She enjoyed volunteering at Prairieview in Danforth, Gibson Area Hospital, St. John Lutheran School and Christ Lutheran School in Buckley.

She had also served as Girl Scout leader for several years and was an Iroquois County Election Judge for many years. Family was very important to Betty. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was truly the hands and feet of the Lord, giving generously of her time and talents. She loved to bake and enjoyed taking baked goods to various bake sales. She also enjoyed sewing, needle point and quilting with the St. John’s ladies, she loved to garden and play cards with her friends and family.

Memorials may be made to Christ Lutheran High School or an organization of the donor’s choice. Condolences may be offered at www. baierfuneralservices.com.
