Miriam Jane Copeland Beck , October 08, 1930 — June 09, 2018

Miriam Jane Beck age 87, of Ashland passed away following a brief illness Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Wasen Rehabilitation Center at Brethren Care Village surrounded by her loved ones. She was born October 8, 1930 in Ashland, the daughter of Donald Irving and Ruth Rebecca (Whiting) Copeland. Miriam had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and a 1948 graduate of Ashland High School.

She had been employed for over 30 years as a Medical Assistant and Office Manager for Dr. Eldred Clem, Dr. Henry Chalfant and Dr. Vera Chalfant before retiring. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Bell Choir, Bible Conversation, and had been on the Alter Guild. She had also been a Volunteer for Samaritan Regional Health System for many years.

Miriam enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, bike riding, knitting and cross stitch. She also loved playing Sudoku puzzles, bridge and Tic. Miriam had also been a life-long fan of the Cleveland Indians.

In June of 1975 Miriam married Ernest “Ernie” Beck who preceded her in death in 1995. Survivors include her loving daughters, Patricia “Patti” Talley (Brian) Moss of Acworth, Georgia, Rebecca “Becky” Talley (Ken) MacLeod of Bolton, Massachusetts, Dr. Diane Talley Darling of London, Ohio; step daughter, Leona (Bill) Gregory of Ashland; her grandchildren, Bryan (Lindsay) Welker, Brent Welker, Brooks MacLeod, Blake MacLeod, and Jennifer Darling; her 2 great grandchildren, Avery and Kinsley; nephew, Don (Sondra) Hoffman; along with her devoted companion for the past 10 years, Speros Karas. In addition to her husband Ernie, Miriam was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Hoffman Crone.

Funeral services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Dr. Eric M. Riesen officiating. Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery.

Friends may visit with the family on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Heyl Funeral Home from 6 to 8:00 P.M. and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Miriam’s daughters would like to thank the wonderful staff at the James Cancer Hospital for the excellent care given to her. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions may be made in Miriam’s memory to the James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute, OSU CCC-James, 660 Ackerman Rd.
