Wednesday, February 13, 2019 in the Korean Presbyterian Church with Rev. Pyung Jong Sim, pastor and Ricky High officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

The family will greet friends from 6:30 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. MSG (Retired) Alexander Thomas ‘Tom’ Findlay entered heaven’s gates on Saturday, February 9, 2019. Tom was born on November 16, 1937 to Frances Marion Detroyer and Archibald Cain Findlay in Detroit, Michigan.

He was raised and attended schools in Dearborn, Michigan until his enlistment into US Army in 1956. Tom’s assignment took him all over the world to include a year deployment to Vietnam where he earned a Bronze Star and to South Korea where he met the love of his life, former Chong Sun Yi. Their final stop was to Fort Sill, Oklahoma in 1973 where he was assigned as an Electronics Instructor.

He was promoted to MSG and served as the Chief Instructor, earning consecutive Ft Sill Instructor of the Year Awards and culminating in his retirement from the Army in 1976. After retirement from the Army, Tom was one of the first Lawton Goodyear Tire Plant employee to be hired on May 23, 1977. He continued to work at Goodyear until 1998 retiring after 21 years with the company.

He and Chong Sun adopted their two beautiful children, Kimberly Ann and Anthony Thomas, on October 31, 1983 from Korea. Tom was a member of the VFW and American Legion. Tom was also a 32d Degree Mason with the Mt.

Scott Masonic Lodge #540 where he served as Secretary and President. One of his greatest moments was finding God and getting baptized in 2007. He enjoyed drawing, writing poetry and cartoons, and spending time with his wife and family.

Tom was a generous and kindhearted man who will be missed by all those who knew him. Tom is survived by his wife of 45 years, Chong Sun, his two children, daughter Kim and her husband Elvis Coronado of Rapid City, SD, and son, Anthony Thomas and his wife, Denisse Findlay of Elgin, OK. Seven grandchildren: Zach, Jonathan, and Isabelle Coronado of Rapid City, SD; Murdoc, Thomas, Hawke, and Sawyer Findlay of Elgin, OK.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Archibald and Frances Findlay.
