Obituary for Murena D. Meyer Murena D. Meyer, 87, of Central City, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at CHI Health Saint Francis in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City with Rev. Kevin McReynolds officiating.

Visitation will be on Sunday, June 24th from 4-7 p.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. Memorials are suggested to Zion Lutheran Church in Worms or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.

soltwagnerfuneral.com. Murena was born on January 29, 1931 in Sterling, Nebraska to Carl and Elsie (Bargman) Michel. Murena began her childhood in Sterling, then the family moved to Ludell, Kansas for 14 years.

They then moved back to Sterling, where she would graduate from Sterling High School in 1949. Following High School Murena would meet Wayne L. Meyer, and they got married on June 7, 1953 in Sterling. Wayne and Murena made their home near Grand Island, until 1955, when they moved to Central City.

From 1949 until 1953 she taught school at Zion Lutheran School at Worms. She then remained at home to raise her family until getting a job at the Merrick County Treasurers office, where she would remain for 30 years, until her retirement in January of 1999. Murena enjoyed reading and sewing, but her greatest love of all was getting spend time with her family, especially her grand children and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City, the St. Paul’s Lutheran Ladies Guild and the Platt-Duetsche Society in Grand Island. Those left to cherish her memory are her husband; Wayne Meyer of Central City, her children; Kenneth (Sandra) Meyer of Grand Island, Michael (Marci) Meyer of Central City, Jim (Patti) Meyer of Albion, Dwaine (Loni) Meyer of Omaha, Patricia (Bill) Peterson of Lincoln, her sibling; Leora (Lloyd) Miller of Crossville, TN, Arlen (JoAnn) Michel of Avoca, NE and Gerald (Mabel) Michel of Castle Rock, CO, 16 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.
