soltwagnerfuneral.com. Bob was born on January 20, 1930 to Otto and Ella (Reher) Husmann on the family farm north of Chapman, Nebraska. He was given his name by his grandmother, Betty.

He grew up and attended school in Chapman, graduating in 1948. He entered the United States Army on January 16, 1952 and served in Germany handling top secret material. He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1953.

Bob returned home and attended college studying agriculture on the GI Bill in Grand Island before returning to the family farm where he continued for the rest of his life. In early 1954, he met Norma Henk of Central City and told her on their first date that she was the woman he was going to marry (she said he was crazy). He was proved right when they married on July 18, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Central City.

Their union was blessed with three sons before being even more blessed with a daughter. Bob was a man of faith and was very active in many organizations. He was a member of the Chapman United Methodist Church.

He served on the Central City School Board for 18 years and on the Merrick County Board of Supervisors for 20 years. While on the school board, he proudly handed Dann and Connee their diplomas. He also served on the Chapman Credit Union and Chapman COOP Boards.

Bob was a member of the American Legion Post #6 and the Platt Duetsche in Grand Island. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and spending time with his family. But mostly, Bob was a story teller who loved nothing more than relating a tale about one of his beloved grandchildren to anyone who would listen.

Among family members and friends, Bob was known as “Chief”. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma of Chapman, NE; three sons Mitchell (Toni) Husmann of Central City, NE, Scott (Rhonda) Husmann of Phillips, NE, and Dann (Laure) Husmann of Lincoln, NE; one daughter Connee (Rodney) Bergmark of Chapman, NE; two sisters Beverly Nelsen of Lincoln, NE and Dorothy Lilienthal of Grand Island, NE; one sister-in-law Doris Husman of Lindsey, TX; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father Leroy Nelson; one grandson Jacob Rudolf; two brothers Kenneth and Ernest Husmann; brothers-in-law Kenneth “Butch” Lilienthal and Galen Nelsen.
