Obituary for Betty Hill Liegl Black Betty Jean Hill Liegl Black, 89, of Central City, died on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at Lancaster Manor in Lincoln. Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 10 a.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home in Central City with Pastor Mark Hartley officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, September 5th from 6-7 p.m. at Solt-Wagner Funeral Home, as well as from 9-10 a.m. prior to the funeral service on Thursday.
Memorials are suggested to the family and condolences may be sent to the family at www. soltwagnerfuneral.com. Betty was born on December 5, 1928 in New Underwood, South Dakota to Clifford and Fern (Young) Hill of Scenic, SD.
Betty grew up in Scenic, and graduated from Scenic High School. Following her graduation she received her Teacher’s Certificate from Black Hills Teacher’s College in Spearfish, SD. On August 12, 1948 Betty married Ernest Liegl in Rapid City, SD.
The couple began raising their family in Farmingdale, SD, where she taught school her first year of marriage. Betty grew up in the Congregational Church and sang in the choir. She was involved in extension clubs and her hobbies were dancing, reading, board games, ceramics, and some tennis.
She was one of the original “Pink Ladies” who were instrumental in establishing the Auxiliary Thrift Store in Central City. Many years later she was divorced and married Dean Black of Mitchell, SD. Betty is survived by her children; Michael (Annette) Liegl of Fort Worth, TX, Pat (Sandy) Liegl of Lincoln, Kathy Boyes of Lincoln, Becky (Robin) Olson of Atkinson, Dave (Therese) Liegl of Lincoln, Brian Liegl of Lincoln, and Jeff (Kristie) Liegl of Lincoln, her brother; Arthur (Elinor) Hill of Casper, WY, her sister; Marjorie Habinck of Rapid City, SD, 24 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her sister; Mary Lou Berry and one grandson; Richard Boyes; two sons-in-law, Bernard Schaaf and Gene Fischer and one daughter-in-law; Cindy Liegl.
