Obituary for Alverta F Johns Alverta Faye Johns entered her heavenly home on Thursday, July 19, 2018, in Central City, Nebraska. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, July 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Heartland Evangelical Free Church located south of Central City on Highway 14. Memorials are suggested in lieu of flowers for Nebraska Christian Schools and Heartland Evangelical Free Church.

A private burial will be at a later date in Ft. McPherson National Cemetery, near Maxwell, Nebraska. Alverta (Hamman) Johns was born September 9, 1928, in Hartford, Kansas, to Pearl and Clarence Hamman.

She graduated from Hartford High School in 1946, and Topeka School of Business in 1948. On November 24, 1949, she married Edward Leroy Johns of Emporia, Kansas. To this union were born three daughters, Martha, Laraine, and Lydia.

Alverta became a believer in Jesus Christ at the age of 30 and began training in Child Evangelism to teach Good News Clubs. She also became a teacher of teachers through this organization. Her passion was to share Christ and this she did with many of her neighbors.

She and her husband moved to Nebraska in 1969 where Ed taught and coached at Nebraska Christian School and where, for a few years, she worked in the cafeteria. When her father passed away, they returned to Kansas to live on his farm, where she used her secretarial skills in the local public schools, and in the nuclear plant near Burlington, Kansas. Upon their return to Central City, Alverta hosted a ladies Bible study and a prayer meeting in her home for many years.

She loved God’s Word and prayed for hundreds of people on her list every day. This was her work in her later years and she accomplished it with diligence. She is survived by her daughters, Martha (Steve) Spacek of Central City, Nebraska, Laraine (David) Standley of Lincoln, Nebraska and Lydia (Gareth) Boehr of Sachse, Texas; 12 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her only two brothers, Paul Lorane and Hubert who died in childhood, her parents, her son-in-law, Alistair Parlane, and her husband.
