Obituary for Myrtle Wallen (Calhoun) Myrtle Madeline Wallen – Gate City, VA Mrs. Myrtle Wallen, 87, Gate City, VA went to be with the Lord at Wilcox Hall, Holston Valley Hospital, on Wednesday, April 11, 2018. Born Myrtle Madeline Calhoun on October 27, 1930 to Wilburn Henry Calhoun and Leona Bradshaw Calhoun in Sullivan County, TN and moved to Scott County, VA at an early age. On March 28, 1953, she married Radford Wallen, to whom she was married for 58 years and 10 months at the time of his death on January 29, 2012, and they lived in the Natural Tunnel and the Daniel Boone communities, residing in the later for 43 years.

Being a homemaker for several decades, she was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. She was known for her chicken and dumplings at family reunions. Everyone looked forward to them and the pot was always scraped clean.

She was a resident of NOVA Health, Weber City, VA for the last 8 months. In addition to her parents and husband, her brothers, Jake, Oscar, James, Everett, and Ralph; and sisters, Shirley Jo, Marie, Maudie, and Maggie preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Radford Wallen, Jr.; daughter, Freda Haworth and husband, David; one grandson, whom she was so proud, Christopher Haworth, Blowing Rock, NC; along with several nieces and nephews.

She is further survived by one step granddaughter, Kristy Seymour and 2 step great grandsons, Jesse and James Ralph. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 14, 2018 at the Gate City Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev.

Wayne Baker and Rev. Paul Blessing officiating. David and Debbie Easterling will be providing the music.

Burial will follow at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, VA. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. An online guest register is available for the Wallen family at www.
