Oren Lee Atherton, 88, of Utica, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2018 at Baptist Health Madisonville. He was born on April 13, 1930 in Daviess County, KY to the late Forest Atherton and Elsie Crowe Atherton. He was employed as a crane operator for Union Local 181 and was the owner of Atherton’s Barber Shop.

Oren was a U.S. Navy and Coast Guard veteran serving in the Korean War. He was a member of Pleasant Hope General Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge 742 in Utica for over 60 years. He enjoyed playing chess, gardening and was a Kentucky Wesleyan College basketball fan.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald Lee Atherton and a grandson, Gregory Lee Wilson. Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Helen Ruth Atherton; a daughter, Rebecca Wilson of Mary Esther, FL; grandchildren, David Brian Wilson II of Mary Esther, FL and Tessa Taylor (Donn) of Tampa, FL; and a sister, Mildred Atherton of Utica. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 in the Chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory.

Burial will follow in Pleasant Hope General Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation is from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday and after 1:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
