Robert Owen Balthrop, age 80 of Chapmansboro, Tennessee, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View, Sunday, March 24, at 2:00 PM with Bro. Danny Demonbreun officiating.

Burial will follow at EverRest of Cheatham cemetery with Nathan Simpkins, Austin Simpkins, Cory Balthrop, Jerremy Williams, Eric Walker, and Owen Newman serving as pallbearers. Don Balthrop, Steve Shepard, Larry Long, Willard Forbes, and Michael Bejma will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Friday, March 22 from 4-8:00PM and Saturday, March 23 from 10-4:00PM and again on Sunday from 12 noon until the hour of service at 2:00 PM.

Mr. Balthrop was born on November 14, 1938 in Chapmansboro, Tennessee to the late Thomas Earl and Minnie Arthetta Evans Balthrop. He followed in his father’s footsteps and was a tobacco farmer. He retired from Hail and Cotton, Inc. after working as a tobacco buyer for over 40 years.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Modene Forbes; and brothers, Thomas, Wayne, Ray, Ronnie, and Jackie Dale Balthrop. Mr. Balthrop is survived by his wife, Stephanie Balthrop; sons, Jeff (Shelley) Newman, Nathan Simpkins, and Austin (Sierra) Simpkins; brother, Travis (Cathy) Balthrop, grandsons, Owen Newman, Maverick Owen and Turner Wayne Simpkins; and a host of loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to Hail and Cotton Scholarship Program, Attn: Kim Davison at 2500 South Main St, Springfield, TN 37172 or they may be sent in care of Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Pleasant View.
