Peggy Jean Owens, 84, of Burnsville, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Mission Hospitals Memorial Campus. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Zelia Edwards and the wife of Roger J. Owens, who died in 2009. She was also preceded in death by a brother Pete Edwards.

Peggy had a loving heart for family and her pets. Surviving are a son: James Owens and wife Renea, a sister: Wanda Shepherd; a niece: Glenda Stamey and husband Bill; a nephew: David Shepherd and wife Ginger all of Burnsville. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 6 PM Saturday, October 20, 2018 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 PM, Monday, October 22, 2018 in Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, at the funeral home.
