Obituary for Peggy Shreve Peggy Joyce (Gray) Shreve transcended this life on October 25, 2018, in Stillwater, OK. Born June 27, 1935, in Ardmore, OK to Cecil and Josie (Bass) Gray, Peggy was 15 minutes younger than her twin brother Reggy, and the fifth of seven Gray children. Peggy was a member of the Chickasaw tribe, and was proud to receive this heritage from Josie.
Peggy had a warrior’s spirit that was evident every day of her life. The service to celebrate Peggy’s life and transcendence will be November 1, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the Strode Chapel, Strode Funeral Home. Peggy attended school in Oklahoma City, and graduated from Capitol Hill High School.
Peggy possessed a fiercely competitive spirit and was an accomplished athlete in school; Peggy loved to play and played to win. She loved fast pitch softball, and continued to play softball and volleyball for many years into adulthood, and learned to play soccer when she was a grandmother. Peggy married Edward Shreve, her high school sweetheart, and three children were born to this union.
When Ed was in the Navy, Peggy , Ed and their youngest daughter moved to Kodiak, Alaska, and this is where their son was born. Peggy loved the rugged beauty of Alaska. After returning to Oklahoma, their third child was born in Oklahoma City.
Peggy helped support the family financially and in every other way while Ed pursued engineering studies which culminated with a Ph. D in Electrical Engineering from OSU. With her young family, Peggy lived in Las Cruces, NM, Stillwater, OK and Bloomington, MN.
Peggy and the family returned to Stillwater in 1969 where Peggy lived the remainder of her life. Peggy could stretch a penny, and during the lean times she was a creative cook and sewed much of the clothing she and her daughters wore. Peggy worked in many professional office settings, and especially enjoyed doing bookkeeping for the OSU Biochemistry department.
Peggy’s core business skills and business acumen were fully utilized when she, Ed, and friend Lloyd Salsman founded Frontier Engineering, Inc. in 1973. Later named Frontier Electronic Systems, Peggy was President of Frontier from 1973 – 2008, and then was Chairwoman of the Board from 2008 – present. A woman of unflinching strength, Peggy’s intuitive business sense and acute perception regarding people ensured the success of the company.
A pioneer of sorts, Peggy was president of a technology company working with the U.S. Government when very few women leaders were in the industry. In business, Peggy was not enamored with popular jargon, trendy theories, or the opinions of experts, and instead relied on her common-sense assessments and perceptions. Frontier has grown into a thriving Aerospace company that has made significant contributions to Stillwater, the state of Oklahoma, and the nation.
Peggy received many professional awards and honors, and was recognized by President Ronald Reagan in a White House ceremony in 1984. Peggy was fiercely loyal to her family, and was always willing to help family members. She enjoyed the frequent family gatherings during her younger years, and has continued to bring family together when possible, even though the remaining family members are few.
Peggy loved nature and enjoyed countless camping trips where she would paint and cook while others explored, fished, and hunted. She enthusiastically attended sporting events, dance recitals, music recitals, theatre performances, and ceremonies of all kinds. Peggy loved an adventure, and was especially fond of any roadtrip that took her through scenic routes.
Peggy was always available for family; she was supportive, caring, generous, and optimistic, and the lives of many people were enriched by knowing her. Peggy is survived by daughter Brenda Rolls (Mark), grandchildren Karyn Maurer (Dave), Kregg Danuser (Becky), and Edyn and Evan Rolls, great-grandchildren Avery and Wyatt Maurer, and Payton and Tyson Danuser, brother Tyrone Gray, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. Awaiting Peggy in God’s care are daughter Catherine Shreve, son Gary Shreve, her parents, and siblings Ina, Helen, Winston, Joe, and Reggy, friend Eddie, as well as many beloved family members and friends.
