Penny Lynn Nichols Russell affectionately called 6 cents Born Dec 5, 1946 to Keith E and Pauline Rich Nichols in Ogden Utah, joined our loving Heavenly Father on Oct 17, 2018. She had an eventful life growing up with her Father’s career in the US Air Force and had some unique experiences. Some of which were: living in France at a young age and living in Montgomery Alabama in 1963.

It was there that she experienced first- hand the tensions and discrimination during desegregation. She graduated from Ogden High School in 1965 and continued her studies at WSU. She took advantage of joining the sorority Lambda Delta Sigma, a sorority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, as Treasurer.

As treasurer she was responsible for handling and dispersing the sorority’s funds. It was during a joint sorority mixer that she met her future husband, Scott C Russell, it was love at first sight. She married her college sweetheart in the Logan Temple on July 22, 1970.

She graduated from WSU in 1971, with a major in education and two minors: Childhood Development and Library Science. She began her teaching as an intern at Gramercy Elementary with the 5th & 6th grade. She went on to teach 3rd grade at Lincoln Elementary.

After their 2 kids were in school, she began working for Weber County Library. Reading has always been a passion of hers, you could say it was meant to be. She held various positions over her career there; from the Law Library to working at North Branch and Main Branch.

She was very dedicated in everything she did. After she retired in 2007, she and Scott decided to travel. They enjoyed many of their trips.

Two of their favorite were their cruises to Alaska, where they enjoyed immensely the history and different sites. They enjoyed concerts together. She enjoyed seeing Neil Sedaka, Frankie Avalon and Engelbert Humperdink, she had the rare opportunity to join her fan club in decorating his dressing room in Las Vegas in 2005.

Together, they have met each of them personally. Penny is survived by her husband, Scott C Russell, 2 children: Brandon Russell and Megan D Schmit (Dennis Schmit), 6 grandkids and 2 great-granddaughters. She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, aunts and uncles, Scott E Durbin (son-in-law), and Melissa Richesson (fiancée).

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd. A viewing will be held on Thursday, October 24th from 6 to 8 pm and Thursday prior to the service from 10:30 to 11:15 am.

Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery in No. Ogden. In lieu of flowers, Penny’s wish is that you Donate to the Weber County Library Development Fund, www.
