Phillis Carolyn Allen October 05, 1938 – January 10, 2019 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Phillis Carolyn (Pomeroy) Allen, 80, passed away peacefully Thursday morning. Phillis was born in Springfield on October 5, 1938 to Phillis (Welch) and Allen Pomeroy. She was raised in Longmeadow, MA and graduated from Springfield Technical High School in 1956 and moved to Agawam in 1963.

She worked as a baker at Shop Rite, Big E’s, and Geissler’s before retiring in 2004. She was a member of the Agawam Congregational Church, where she was a deacon, taught Christian education, and served on numerous committees including Loaves and Fishes. She was so instrumental as a member of the catering committee, the church is planning on dedicating the kitchen in her memory as “Carol’s Kitchen”.

She was active in the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts while her children were young. She was a member of Agawam Senior Center and Treasurer of the Agawam Golden Age Club Chapter II. She was known for her fabulous apple pies.

She loved playing cards, Mexican Train, and spending time with her family while they were camping. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandson. She was pre-deceased by her husband John Allen in 1980 and a brother Allen Pomeroy, Jr. in 1994.

She leaves her four children Jeffrey Allen and his wife Chris of Westfield, Linda LaValley and her husband Michael of Three Rivers, Stephen Allen and his wife Tracy of Garner, NC, David Allen and his wife Susan of South Hadley and a brother Phillip Pomeroy and his wife Sophie of Clemmons, NC; six grandchildren Samantha Hammond and her husband Anthony of Charlton, Jonathan LaValley and his wife Lindsey of Tempe, AZ, Amanda Brown and her husband Sam of Clayton, NC, Heather Yeager and her husband Paul of Palmer, Tim Allen of Garner, NC and Bennett Allen of South Hadley, and a great-grandson Evan Yeager of Palmer. She also leaves a nephew, Wesley Pomeroy who lived with her after her brother died; as well as his son Caleb and Wesley’s significant other Gabby and their two children, Keenan and Alana of Westfield. Visiting hours will be held at the Agawam Curran-Jones Funeral Home on Thursday January 17th from 4:00-7:00 PM.

A memorial service will be held at the Agawam Congregational Church on Friday January 18th at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Agawam Congregational Church, 745 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. For more details please go to curranjones.com.
