Ray Lewis Shelton, age 66, of Erwin, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2019 at Unicoi County Hospital. A native of Erwin, Ray is a son of Hilden Shelton and the late Betty Shelton. He is a member of Unaka Springs Freewill Baptist Church, where he served as the Church Janitor, and he retired from the Unicoi County Highway Department.

He enjoyed riding bicycles and working on machinery and bicycles. In addition to his mother, Ray is preceded in death by: his brother, Vernon Shelton; sisters-in-law: Martha Wilson and Thelma Wilson; brothers-in-law: Herbert Wilson, Floyd Wilson and Howard Wilson. In addition to his father, Ray Lewis Shelton leaves behind to cherish his memory: Wife of 39 years: Ruby Shelton, of Erwin; Daughter: Amanda Shelton, of Erwin; Sisters: Freida Tipton, of Flag Pond, Eva Scott, of Wilmington, NC, Hilda Hayes, of Erwin; Sister-in-law: Sabie Wilson.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence as we offer tribute and remember the life of Ray Lewis Shelton in a committal service to be held at 3:30 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in Bumpass Cove Cemetery. Pastor Steve Cochran, Reverend Keith Tipton and Reverend Lonnie Wilson will provide eulogies. A visitation period to share memories and offer support to the family will be held from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM on Sunday, March 24, 2019 in the chapel at Valley Funeral Home.

Those attending the committal service will meet at Valley Funeral Home by 3:00 PM to go in procession. Serving as active pallbearers will be: Scott Metcalf, Keith Tipton, Tommy Briest, Dewey Edwards, Matt Sadler and Gary Clark. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family and viewed at www.
