Obituary for Raymond E. Hively Jr. Raymond E. Hively, Jr., 73, of York, died peacefully at home on Saturday, September 8, 2018. Born in York on April 8, 1945, he was the son of the late Raymond E. and Ann (Shimko) Hively. Ray was the loving husband of Gloria J. (Beckmeyer) Hively; they celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 15.

Ray was a 1963 graduate of William Penn Senior High School. He went onto York College, leaving college to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War era, spending 18 months stationed in Alaska. After his Honorable Discharge from the service, he returned to York College, graduating in 1972.

He was a member of the Veterans’ Fraternity, Chi Gamma Iota. Ray worked as a Highway Safety Inspector for PENNDOT; a Service Department Manager in several auto dealerships, and later went into retail and real estate sales, finishing his career as a sales representative for Highbourne Deer Farms in Dallastown. Ray was a member of the Dallastown American Legion, the Kreutz Creek Valley VFW, the Columbia Catholic War Vets, the Long Neck, DE AMVETS, and the Hawk Gunning Club.

Ray enjoyed watching NASCAR races and Penn State Nittany Lions football. He loved to spend time with his family, especially with his grandchildren, who affectionately called him ‘Paw Paw”. In addition to his loving wife, Ray is survived by his sons and grandchildren, Brian E. and Wendy P. Hively of Urbana, MD and their daughters, Charlotte and Madison Hively and Brock R. and Tamara J. Hively of York and their son, Derek A. Etter.

He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. A visitation for Ray will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York. Military Honors will be conducted by the Dallastown American Legion Honor Guard during the visitation at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ray’s memory may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
