Raymond’s Obituary Raymond J. Childs, Sr, 88, of Windham, NH passed away on Friday evening, January 4th, 2019 surrounded by his loving family at the Merrimack Valley High Point Hospice House, Haverhill, MA. Son the late Frederick and Blanche (Boucher) Childs, Ray was born on August 7th, 1930. He was raised and educated in Lawrence, MA.

Mr. Childs was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the Navy from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1955. For the past 47 years, Ray was married the love of his life, Eleanor (Benner) Childs. Always a hardworking man, Mr. Childs worked for AT&T for over 37 years.

He was also a self-employed businessman, being a partner in the ownership and operation of Childs Exxon Station in Salem, NH and eventually developed Childs Plaza. He enjoyed many trips to Florida, Las Vegas, and Bronson, Missouri with his wife, Betty and Jim, Barbara, Freida and Roland, Pat and Jim, and George and Peg. Raymond is survived by his wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Benner) Childs; his son, Raymond J. Childs Jr. of Pelham, NH; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Thomas Dumont of Dunstable, MA; his five grandchildren, Raymond III, Ryan, and Jennifer Childs, Derek and Jessica Dumont; as well as his sisters-in-law, Barbara, Betty, and Freida; and his brother-in-law, George.

Ray was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Blanche (Boucher) Childs; brother, Fred J. Childs, Jr. in 2016; daughter, Donna R. Childs in 1983; daughter-in-law, Sheila (Trowbridge) Childs in 2017; and a granddaughter, Shannon M. Childs in 1993. Ray was a dedicated family man, who spent his entire life taking great pleasure in providing for and spending time with his loving wife and family. Always looking for ways to help and improve the lives of family members, there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for them, especially for his wife, truly the love of his life.

Calling hours will be held on Wednesday January 9th from 4-7 pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road Windham, NH 03087. A funeral service will take place on Thursday morning at the funeral home at 10 am. Interment with Navy Honors will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Methuen, MA.
