Obituary for Rev. Bill J. Winstead Rev. Bill J. Winstead, of Rogersville, passed from this life to the great home of the soul to be with Jesus Christ forever more on July 22, 2018.

He was born March 18, 1953, to the late Mary Elizabeth and Price Luther Winstead. He leaves to mourn his absence, his sweetheart and the love of his life, Betty S. Winstead. They grew up together after marrying at age 19 (Bill) and age 16 (Betty) and were married for 46 years.

He is also survived by his daughter, daddy’s little girl, Clarissa “Chris” Lynn Winstead Chase; special hearted adopted children, Rick and Terri Barker; grandaughter, Ava Barker, who was pop pop’s blessed little darling; two precious sisters, Barbara (Dave) Greer and Debbie (Paul) Bledsoe; several nieces and nephews; special niece, Tonya (Greg) Brewer; and great nephew, Logan Brewer. Bill loved the Lord and was saved as an early teen and was called to preach soon after. He didn’t feel worthy or able to do God’s work and ran from it throughout his teenage years and faced many troubles.

He finally surrendered to the Lord and went on to preach for many years. He never felt like a good, smart preacher, but he always testified that nobody could have been better blessed. He loved the Spirit and preached at many places through the years and helped to organize a church many years ago that is still being blessed today.

He also helped organize the Southern District Association of Primitive Baptist Churches that began with 3 churches and now, by God’s grace, includes 20 churches. Brother Bill pastored Sulphur Springs Primitive Baptist Church for 16 years and was entering his 17th year there. He loved his community and wonderful neighbors, he had many friends, and many brothers and sisters in Christ.

May God bless them all. Memorial donations may be made to Christian-Sells Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.
