Obituary for William Carl Reece Rakestraw William Carl Reece Rakestraw passed away Sunday, July 15, 2018, at age 88, following an extended illness. Formerly of Rogersville, he had been residing for the past several years in Stone Mountain, GA, with son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vernell Rakestraw. He retired from the United States Air Force in 1979, with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, following a distinguished career.

Afterward, he continued in public service with the state of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie Ethel Wagner Rakestraw; granddaughter, Emily Grace Rakestraw; parents, Roy and Maggie Rakestraw; brother, Kenneth Rakestraw; sisters, Frances Rao, Georgia Ball, Opal Smith and Hilda Bailey. He is survived by his son, Charles Rakestraw of Snellville, GA; son, Michael and Vernell Rakestraw and their children David, Michael and Katie Rakestraw; brother, Billy Rakestraw and family; sister, Betty and brother-in-law Rev.

Lyons Smith. On his wife’s side, sister-in-law, Opal Kirkpatrick; brother-in-law, Scott Culbertson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, July 21, 2018, at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.

Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm with Rev. Eric Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens with military funeral honors rendered by the Hawkins County Color Guard and the U.S. Air Force.
