Richard Tipton, 75, of the Low Gap community of Yancey County, passed away Friday, September 28, 2018, at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Thomas and Martha Fender Tipton. He was also preceded in death by a sister: Mary Evelyn Conrad; and a brother: Larry Tipton.

Richard had owned and operated Tipton Drywall and Tipton’s Cleaning Service. An avid golfer with the Yancey County Golf League, he was known for his sense of humor, quick wit and enjoyed traveling with friends to the coast. Surviving are his wife of 56 years: Linda Silver Tipton; 2 children: Richard Tipton and wife, Amy, of Mill Spring and Angela Rash and husband, Calvin, of Burnsville; 3 grandchildren: Hannah Welsh and husband, Timothy, Presley Rogers and husband, Aaron, and Nicholas Rash; 2 great grandchildren: Violet and Gunnar; brothers: Allison Tipton and wife, Dannah, of Burnsville and Chris Tipton and wife Talena, of Lancaster, SC; and, his little dog: Daisy.

Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday in Low Gap Free Will Baptist Church, of which he was a member, deacon and Sunday school superintendent. Rev. Blaine Whitson and his brother, Rev.

Chris Tipton will officiate. Burial will be in the Riddle-Ray Cemetery on Bee Branch. Pallbearers will be Byrl Ballew, Jerry Riddle, Dale Hilemon, Mike Riddle, Danny Ray, Larry McMahan, and Welzie Silver.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Riddle and Allison Tipton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made the Hospice of Yancey County, 856 Georges Fork Road, Burnsville, NC 28714.
