Obituary for Rick Thompson Rick Thompson, 71 of West Frankfort, passed away at 9:58 a.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Herrin Hospital. Rick was born June 12, 1947 in Herrin to Robert Sherman and Mable (Beasley) Thompson. He married Sherri Lynn Ramsey on October 3, 1969 in Pittsburg.

Rick and Sherri have shared 49 years of marriage together. Rick was retired from Old Ben Coal Company where he worked in the shop in Benton as a welder for many years. He also owned and operated Tru-Weld for several years.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served his country honorably. Rick was a member of Harmony Freewill Baptist Church of West Frankfort where he served as a trustee. He enjoyed being outdoors and loved to work in his shop welding.

But most of all he enjoyed spending with those he loved, especially his grandchildren that he loved to make homemade ice cream with. Rick is survived by his wife Sherri of West Frankfort; two daughters, Brandi Stewart of West Frankfort and Crystal (Lenny) Clark of Pittsburg; four grandchildren, Kailyn Stewart, Anna and Ty Clark, Lucas Pohl; two sisters-in-law, Louise Thompson of Pittsburg and Darlene (Jim) Hancock of Carbondale; two brothers-in-law, Kevin (Sherry) Ramsey of and Greg Ramsey of Marion. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a host of good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Thompson and his son-in-law, Jim Stewart. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2018 in Pyle Funeral Home with Br. Curtis Smith officiating.

Interment will follow in Harmony Church Cemetery. Flag presentation will be by the United States Navy Military Honors Team. Visitation will from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City is entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Night’s Shield. Memorial envelopes are available at the funeral home .
