Obituary for Robert W. “Bob” Shappell Robert W. “ Bob” Shappell, 89, of Pohatcong Township, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 at the Lopatcong Center in Lopatcong Township, NJ. Robert was born in Phillipsburg, NJ on August 13, 1929 to the late Vincent and Marie C. Mustard Shappell. Robert was a lineman with JCP&L of both Phillipsburg and Washington, NJ, retiring after over 35 years.

He was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School and proudly served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was decorated with the Korean Service Ribbon, the United Nations Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing in his retirement years.

Robert was a member of Old Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Stewartsville, NJ. He was also a past member of the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad. Robert is survived by his daughters, Robin Goodnight of Pohatcong Township and Paula Rutherford and her husband, Tom of Texas; granddaughter, Sydney Rutherford and Kelsey Davis; and great-grandson, Dylan .

Robert was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth A. Durst Shappell, who passed away in August 2018. A Memorial Service for Robert will be held on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 1pm at the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC; 465 Memorial Parkway; Phillipsburg, NJ 08865. Interment will be in Greenwich Presbyterian Cemetery.
