Obituary for Ronald Ross Grimes Ronald R. Grimes, 70, of Central City, Nebraska died Sunday, May 20, 2018 at CHI St Francis in Grand Island. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 10:30a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Father David Fulton officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. Vigil Service.

Burial will be in the Central City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the family. Condolences can be sent to the family at www.

soltwagnerfuneral.com. Ronald was born on November 11, 1947 in Sidney, NE to William and Jean (Michael) Grimes. Ron grew up in the Grand Island area and attended Grand Island Public Schools graduating in 1966.

He served in the United States Marine Corp, enlisting in 1966. Ronald was stationed in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in 1971. Ronald later graduated from the Grand Island Business College in 1973.

He married Donna M. Northup in Grand Island on October 22, 1966 in Grand Island. Ron worked at the Exec Air, worked various other jobs, until he settled in driving a truck for over 30 years. He drove a truck for Chief Industies, Overheaed Door, and Sunrise Express.

Ronald was a member of St. Michaels Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, and the American Legion Post #6. At St. Michael’s, Ron sang in the choir and was a lector. He was also a Boy Scout and Assistant Boy Scout leader for Troop 102 in Central City.

Ronald was also a member of the Nebraska Country Music Association where he served as Vice President. He was was also inducted into the Nebraska Country Music Hall of Fame in 2015. Ron received great enjoyment from music and entertaining.

Ron basically was responsible for starting the Karaoke Challenge that was always held on 4th of July weekend. He also wrote some songs for some big country stars such as LeAnn Rimes and Clay Walker. His greatest love was for his grandchildren and family.

Ronald is survived by his wife, Donna of Central City, NE; three sons- Ronnie Grimes and significant other- Katie Greger; William and Angie Grimes, Matthew Grimes, Tina and Lance Lindner; and Sarah and Michael Coleman all of Central City, NE; five brothers- David and Carol Grimes of Grand Island,NE; Robert and Judy Grimes of Loveland, CO; Bill and Linda Grimes of Tucson, AZ; Mike and Ann Grimes of Grand Island, NE; and Jim and Janelle Grimes of Grand Island, NE; two sisters- Jeanne Grimes of Omaha, NE; and Patricia and Chuck Grimes of Fullerton, NE; 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, one brother- Thomas Grimes; one grandson- Benjamin Lindner.
