Obituary for Ronald T. Blair Ronald Terry Blair of Marietta, Georgia passed away on June 21st at the age of 80. Born in the old Marietta Hospital on June 21, 1938 he was a life long resident of Marietta except for a while during World War II when his parents, Webster W. and Daisy Terry Blair were located in Brunswick, Georgia where Mr. Blair was a safety inspector at the Naval Shipyards and during his military service. He attended the old Keith and Waterman Street Schools and graduated from Marietta High School in 1956 and was a member of the BETA Club and the first stamp and coin club.
He graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Tech) in 1960 with a degree of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He was in the Naval ROTC program all four years while at Tech and participated in the Summer Student Engineering Program at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation each summer. He served his county as a LT JG of the Sixth Fleet aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, CVA-42 along the East coast, the Mediterranean Sea and through the Straits of Gibraltar and along the coast of Africa.
He served as the Engineering “A” Division Officer and Engineering Officer of the Watch. He has been entered into the U.S. Navy Memorial Log in Washington, D.C. Returning home he worked for Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Aircraft Plant No. 6 for over 32 years in the Loades Division at times traveling to Dayton, Ohio and to the famous Skunk Works in California.
He was a life long member of the Marietta First United Methodist Church, an avid U.S. stamp collector and lover of nature, camping and visiting our parklands. He enjoyed the North Georgia State Fair each year and was proud to be “A Friend of the Fair”. He is survived by one brother, Larry Osborne Blair of Marietta; one aunt, Mrs. Donnie Joe Terry Wilcox of Tustin, CA; and many cousins located in Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Texas, and California.
Special thanks are extended to cousins, Terry M. Chandler, Rosemary Strickland, and Maryanne Elliott who have extended much aid and support during a long battle Ronald waged against cancer. He passed into heaven with grace and dignity. Services will be held at the Historic Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home in Marietta at 11:00 a.m. Monday with a visitation on hour prior.
