Rubye Gayle Shipman, age 94, of Hillsboro IL, passed away on June 14, 2018 at 11:25 a.m. at Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Taylor Springs IL. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL with Rev. Randy Sands, Pastor of Free Methodist Church officiating.

Burial will be in Cress Hill Cemetery, Hillsboro. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 18, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Free Methodist Church, Hillsboro, IL. Rubye was born on July 18, 1923 at Avena IL the daughter of the late Thomas Richard and Lydia Catherine (Eveland) Hankins.

She had worked as a salesperson at Seltzer Shoe Store, Sherman’s Clothing, Radcliff’s, Bricker’s, Sterling’s and Major’s stores. She also was an Avon Representative for 22 years and was a caretaker for people in their homes. Her places of residence were Avena, Brownstown, Harvel, Taylor Springs, Maroa and Hillsboro IL.

Rubye was a member of Full Gospel Church, Schram City; Jolly Grandmother’s Club; Senior Citizens, Taylor Springs; a member of the President’s Club with Avon Co; and had attended Southside Baptist Church, Litchfield. Mrs. Shipman married Hubert Leon Shipman on August 30, 1941 at St. Charles, MO and he preceded on April 8, 1979. Survivors include one daughter, Helen Fay (husband James) Bergman, Waltonville IL; one daughter-in-law, Nancy Shipman, Hillsboro IL; seven grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; twenty-three great great grandchildren; siblings, Mildred Jett, Litchfield, IL; Elizabeth Doworsack, Litchfield, IL; Genieve Woods, St. Jacobs, IL; Thomas Richard Hankins, Harristown, IL; Clow Jo Osborn, Hillsboro IL; Howard Wayne Hankins, Granite City IL.

Preceding in death were a daughter, Charlotte Kay Shipman in infancy, a son, Marion “Lee” Shipman on June 23, 1997; great-granddaughter, Christina Watson; great-great-grandson, Duane Watson; sister, Mary Hassebrock; brothers, Leonard “Bud” Hankins and Joseph Alfred Hankins; Memorials may be directed to the family.
