Sabra Hindson, 89 Poland – Sabra Hindson went home to be with the Lord after passing away with family by her side on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018. Sabra was born November 24, 1928, the daughter of Jay and Jessie Brothers.

Sabra grew up in Boardman. Her parents managed to feed all 8 children during the depression. Six of the children were girls, so they called them the Brothers’ Sisters.

They were a very close and loving family. Their favorite holiday was Christmas when they would go to great lengths decorating. One year they had 13 live Christmas trees in their home!

Each tree was complete with a decorated winter scene underneath. Sabra took the bus downtown to her job as the Secretary to the President of McKelvey’s Department Store. After several years, she was promoted to be the women’s sportswear buyer and went on buying trips to New York City.

She loved seeing all the shows on Broadway and enjoyed listening to the original Broadway musical scores throughout her life. Sabra married Robert Hindson in 1960 and began an adventurous life. They were members of Pymatuning Yacht Club and also sailed the Atlantic Ocean and many inland lakes.

Sabra loved dogs and had a Weimaraner named Misty that she took to dog shows. They moved to a 10-acre farm in Canfield in 1969. They had dogs and horses throughout the next forty years at the farm.

Their daughter, Laura, rode and showed the horses at area events. Sabra was always ready with a helping hand at the horse shows and often hosted picnics in the converted “Tip-Top Bread” truck used for pulling the horse trailer. Sabra always stayed close with her family and helped care for her mother who lived to 103.

Sabra’s mother often described her daughter as “bubbling over with love”. Her pleasant demeanor and ready smile was proof of her kind nature. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Laura (John, Jr.) Scotford and grandchildren, Sam, Sydney and Jim of Poland; three sisters, Esther Canada of Dallas, Irma Schilling of Youngstown and Laura Yozwick of Pittsburgh.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and siblings, Ruth Crawford, Mary Jane Jardine, Clark Brothers and David Brothers. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 11 a.m at Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland. Friends may call 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
