SARAH VIRGINIA HOLDSWORTH BROWN, age 87, of Washington CH, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 9:04 a.m. at Carriage Court of Washington CH. She was born on October 23, 1931 in Wilson County, Tennessee to James Henry and Winnie Aye Robinson Holdsworth. She was a 1949 graduate of Watertown High School in Tennessee.

After graduation, Sarah relocated to Washington CH to help her sister, Ruth Connell, during the birth of her first child. Sarah landed her first job in Fayette County at The Record Herald. Former Fayette County Sheriff, Don Thompson, was in need of a secretary at the Sheriff’s Department.

Sarah soon became the first female Deputy Sherriff to work in Fayette County. She retired from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department in 1996. Sarah was also a long-time member at the Fayette Bible Church.

She enjoyed sewing, assisting in 4-H, and had a love for all animals. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; and nine siblings. Survivors include her children, Lu-Etta (Dwight) Smith of Loveland, Ohio, and Jo-Retta Grooms of Blacklick, Ohio; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph Holdsworth; and her special friends, Sonny and Jo Laymon.

Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. The memorial service will be held on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fayette Bible Church, 1315 Dayton Ave. , Washington CH, OH 43160, with Pastor Tony Garren officiating.

In keeping with Sarah’s wishes, cremation has taken place and she will be interred at the Prosperity Cemetery in Auburntown, Tennessee at the convenience of her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Heartland Hospice, 116 Morris Rd. , Suite B, Circleville, OH 43113.
