Obituary for Shelby Via Cassell Shelby Via Cassell, 79, of Martinsville, passed away Monday, May 14,2018 at Blue Ridge Health and Rehab. She was born December 4, 1938, in Martinsville, to the late Walter M. and Carleen Joyce Via. She enjoyed walking, bluegrass music, and cats.

Shelby was a second mom to many of her children’s friends. She was of the Pentecostal Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Maynard Via, Truman “Popeye” Via, Loy Lee Via and Wayne Via.

Ms. Cassell is survived by her daughter, Stacey Cassell; sons, Kenny Cassell and Allen Cassell; sister, Joy Rakes; grandchildren, Joey Cassell, Heather Cassell, Ashley Cassell, and Casey Moore; and one great-granddaughter, Maddie Cassell. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 7:00 PM, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Bud Sedwick officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be private. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 308 Craighead Street, Suite 104, Danville, VA 24541. Wright Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
