Shirley A. Occhino Guertin Thomas of Ironton, Missouri, passed peacefully on January 12, 2019 at the age of 82 years. She was born September 26, 1936 in Oswego, New York, the daughter of the late Murphy and Evelyn O’Brien Occhino. On October 12, 1954, Shirley was united in marriage to John R. Guertin who proceeded her in death on April 14, 2012.

To this union seven children were born; Denise (David) Bates of Ironton, MO, Debra A. (Joel III) Gordon of Desloge, MO, John R. (Mary Memhardt) Guertin Jr. of Ferrum, VA, Diane Sweeney of Ironton, MO, Brian (Kathleen Burke) Guertin of Marshall, VA, the late Kevin Guertin of Cornelia, GA,and Mark Guertin of Ironton, MO. On February 10, 1978, Shirley was united in marriage to Roy G Thomas who proceeded her in death April 23, 2002. To this union Shirley’s stepchildren are, Carson (Linda) Thomas, Roger (Sharon) Thomas, Brenda (Charles) Brooks, Linda (Scott) Freeman.

During the last 12 years, Shirley and Charlie Fronick had an amazing life of Family, Love with a spirit for travel and adventure. Shirley is survived by one Sister Mary Helen (Thomas) D’Angelo of Johnson City, N.Y., and one Brother Murphy (Joey) Occhino of Oswego, N.Y. , and a Cousin Fran Hanley-Fatiga of Oswego, N.Y. Shirley is survived by 18 Grandchildren, 19 Great Grandchildren and one on the way. Shirley served her community in many capacities.

She was an owner operator of Lake Killarney, G&T Resort, Century 21 Realty, Fort Davidson Motel and numerous other businesses. She was also a member of the AV Elks Ladies Auxiliary #2330 and AV Eagles Lodge Ladies Auxiliary #4238. Services: A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Cole Family Funeral Home in Ironton, Missouri on Saturday, February 9, 2019.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m., and from 4:45-5:45 p.m. an open forum for cherished memories to be shared. In Lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Cole Family Funeral Home, 210 E Reynolds St. Ironton, Mo. 63650.
