Shirley J L Ronde, October 26, 1926 — February 11, 2019

Shirley’s Obituary Shirley Joyce LaRonde of Liverpool passed on February 11, 2019 at the age of 92. Shirley was born on Oct. 26, 1926 to parents Ewald H. and Georgina L. (Griesbach) Nordheim.

She grew up in the village of Liverpool and was a 1944 graduate of Liverpool High School. Shirley met Charles F. LaRonde, a few months after he left the U.S. Navy in 1946. They were married in a garden ceremony on June 12, 1948 in her parents’ back yard.

The newlyweds lived in Syracuse for seven years before moving to their lifelong house in Liverpool, two young sons in tow. Shortly before her first son was born, Shirley left the workplace to be a full-time mother until 1966, when she became a cook at Liverpool’s Elmcrest Elementary School. In 1972 she joined the staff of Syracuse Supply Co. until her retirement in 1985.

Aside from family, singing was the great love of Shirley’s life. After graduating from high school she joined the choir of First Baptist Church in Syracuse, where she was a soprano soloist at many church functions. In 1948, she joined the choir of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Liverpool where she was an active member for 70 years.

She passed on her love of Classical music to both children and grandchildren, three of whom are currently church choir Singers. After her retirement, Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband, spending time with family members, baking, and gardening. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her brother (Richard Nordheim) and her husband.

She is survived by sons David M. LaRonde (Patricia) and James F. LaRonde (Anne Hegel), granddaughters Gretchen K. Corum-LaRonde, Andrea J. Koeppen-LaRonde, Madelaine LaRonde and great-grandson Cillian Declan Corum-LaRonde. The LaRonde family would like to thank the staff at Crouse Hospital for their exceptional care during Shirley’s last days.
