Obituary for Shirley Jean DeLaere (Hemeryck) Shirley DeLaere, a longtime resident of Grosse Pointe Park, Clinton Township and Deckerville, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family on Monday, September 24, 2018. She was 74 years old. Shirley was born on November 14, 1943 in Detroit to Albert and Mary (nee Van Daele) Hemeryck.

She later met and married the love of her life, Patrick L. DeLaere Sr. in Detroit on May 12, 1962. The couple made their first home before settling to Grosse Pointe Park to raise their family. Shirley enjoyed cooking, baking, spending time with her family, playing Euchre and Pinochle; and especially loved her time with her grandchildren.

She also loved watching the Detroit Tigers. Above all, Shirley was a strong and resilient person who gave all she had to those she loved. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Shirley is the beloved wife of the late Patrick L. DeLaere Sr.; cherished mother of Christopher (Jill) DeLaere, Timothy (Lisa) DeLaere, and Patrick (Nancy) DeLaere; loving grandmother of Elizabeth (James) Adams, Trevor DeLaere, Bailey DeLaere, McKenzie DeLaere, and the late Albert DeLaere; and sister of Robert (Sandy) Hemeryck. She was also preceded in death by her parents. Private services were held.

Arrangements entrusted to Faulmann & Walsh Golden Rule Funeral Home, 32814 Utica Road, Fraser, Michigan 48026. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton Twp.
