Our loving mother, grandmother, and friend Shirley Maxine Tidwell Hunter passed away September 9, 2018 surrounded by family. Born October 28, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah to James Leonard and Pernella Larson Tidwell. She was the baby princess of her family where she was adored by all three of her siblings, Bernice, Marguerite and Jim who loved spoiling her.

Though it did not really matter since she adored them as well and she grew to be very sweet, non-judgmental, non-offensive, or critical, very frugal and loved by all who knew her. Our mother was very close to perfect. Mom grew up in Sugarhouse and graduated from South High School where she sang in A Capella Choir, which was one of the highlights of her life.

Both she and dad always encouraged their children to sing in Choir. She went on to the University of Utah, where she majored in P.E., which is a shock to us, as she did not like any physical activities, such as walking. Anywhere!

While working at the Center Theater, she met Dick Hunter and they fell in love and married in the Salt Lake Temple on February 6, 1952. She and dad created the beautiful family we have today. Mom loved her family more than anything else in her life.

She worked in accounting at Standard Optical, Duplers Fur, Blanchard Metals,Wasatch Electric. She finally found her favorite job with Educators Mutual, where she retired at age 80. She was a beautiful seamstress, and crochet gal.

She loved music, movies, theater, dancing and Elvis. She made many lifetime friends, in particular Genial Bendixen, Deanna Peterson and Diane McGraff. Preceded in death by husband Dick and grandson Joseph.

Survived by: Scott(Shelley), Kristine(Paul)Philips, Russell(Barbara), Calvin(Jamie), 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, brother James(Gladys)Tidwell. Thanks to Angela, Tami, Barbara, Suelie, Kim, Mike and Adrian. She loved you all!
