Obituary of Shirley Nelson Shirley F. Nelson, age 92, of Corning, NY peacefully passed away into the Lord’s hands on Tuesday, December 4, 2018. She was born October 30, 1926 in Corning to Stephen and Nina (Benson) Vetukevic. Shirley worked for the Corning-Painted Post School District as a cafeteria aide for 27 years.

She finished her career working for the Corning Museum of Glass in the cafe. Shirley was devoted to her family. She loved nothing more than spending time with her family at the lake and during family get togethers.

Even in her final days she kept her sense of humor and hilarious expressions. Shirley is survived by two sons, Douglas(Mary Lou) Rarrick of Painted Post and Ron Nelson of Corning; daughter-in-law, Ann Rarrick of Corning; grandchildren: Michael (Holly) Rarrick of Painted Post, Michele Galligan of Corning, Dan (Nicole) Butler of Syracuse and Brittany (Donnie) Ritchie of Corning; great-grandchildren: Amber (Shawn) Thompson, Derek (Kristen) Rodbourn, Michael (Aimee) Rarrick, Tanner (Madison) Rarrick, Donnie Ritchie Jr, Liam Butler, Alyssa Vancise; great-great-grandchildren: Brantlee, Colt, Kyleigh, Ethan and Garrett. Shirley is also survived by extended family and close friends.

Shirley is predeceased by her first husband, Sheldon Rarrick, second husband Leon Nelson, son Rick Nelson and daughter-in-law, Meshael Nelson. Calling hours will be held at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street, Corning, on Friday, December 7th from 5 until 7:30PM where funeral services will follow at 7:30PM with Pastor Vaughn VanSkiver officiating. Burial will be in Coopers Plains Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made in Shirley’s name to a charity of your choice. Shirley’s family entrusted her care to Haughey Funeral Home, Inc. Special thanks to Jon Carpenter and family.
