Susie Whitehair Susie Esther Lasure Whitehair, 76, died peacefully on December 1, 2018 at her Parkersburg, WV residence after a long illness. Susie was born on April 19, 1942 in Tyler County, the daughter of the late Daniel and Martha George Lasure. Family and friends were Susie’s passion and delight.

Her house was the community center where everyone gathered, and no one left hungry. Susie, along with her late husband, Luther “Sonny” Whitehair, sacrificed what limited res they had to feed and shelter those in need. With her passing the neighborhood will never be the same.

In addition to her parents and husband, Susie was preceded in death by her first husband Bert Shreves; six siblings, Lawrence, Andrew, Ethel, Pearl, Nina, Lavada, and Mary; step-daughter Mary Bixman; and great-grandson Braxton Jordan. Susie is survived by her children, Debbie Jeffries, Loretta Gibson (Martin), Connie Taylor (Van), Terry Whitehair (Wanda) David Whitehair and Gary Whitehair, all of Parkersburg, Charlie Whitehair (Sandra) of Little Hocking, OH and Luther Lasure (Melody) of Charleston, WV; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; sister, Landoria Huether of Sistersville, WV and brother Bruce Eugene “Fred” Lasure of Middlebourne, WV. We invite you to join in with family and friends at Leavitt Funeral Home 403 7th St. Parkersburg on December 7, 2018 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM, with remembrance service beginning at 8:00 PM.

The funeral services will be conducted by her granddaughter, Pastor Melody Smith December 8, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home in Parkersburg. In lieu of flowers, and in accordance with her wishes and the way she lived her life, we request contribution to the inner-city neighborhood ministry The Gathering, Attn. : Pastor Melody Smith, 1005 14th Street, Parkersburg, WV 26101- All donated funds will be dedicated to feeding the hungry and providing for the children in the community she served and loved.
