Dennis “Tom”‘s Obituary Dennis R. Perkins “Tom”, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 22, 2019. He was born July 7, 1943 in Nettie, Nicholas County WV, to Claude and Lareda Fields Perkins. Tom graduated from Richwood High School in 1961.
Tom married Phyllis Ann Spence on a snowy day in 1963, and they began their life together in Vienna, WV. He worked for DuPont as a research laboratorian for 33 years, forging many relationships. The family gathered December 21st to celebrate their 55th wedding Anniversary.
It was a great joy for him to be surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, Jeff (Carrie) and their girls Caitlyn and Jenna of Cross Lanes, WV; Theresa (Mark) and their boys Ryan (Richmond, VA) Trevor (ASU, Tempe, AZ). Tom is also survived by his sisters-in-law Katherine Perkins, Ruth Dean (George), and several nieces and nephews. His 94 year-old second mother and Aunt, Della Dorsey, survives him (Belpre Landing, OH).
Tom enjoyed personal and small group Bible Study (Lost and Found Sunday School Class), Deacon Board and service at Vienna Baptist Church. Whether as a prayer warrior participating in a J-Dollar breakfast, a driver for Road to Recovery/American Cancer Society, FaithLink volunteer, or packing weekend food backpacts for children at Vienna Schools. The family hopes sharing this will inspire others to serve.
Tom was a member of Vienna Masonic Lodge 172 AF&AM, and Nemesis Shriners of Parkersburg. He was also a Road Runner for Shriner’s Hospital for Children, and was a comforting presence for families being served. Tom always noticed needs and acted on them quietly and humbly.
An avid outdoorsman, Tom enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his father-in-law, Roy Spence, and they are no doubt catching up on the splendor of God’s creation as they both see it now through heaven’s eyes. It brought Tom great joy to hunt on the same farm with his son and grandson. We imagine that Tom and his brother David Dwaine are enjoying a heavenly ramp feed.
Grateful to golf in retirement, Tom cherished his golf outings with his son, grandson; Harrison Fletcher and Gary Hawley. Visitation will be held at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home in Vienna on Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. A service will be held at Vienna Baptist Church, 3401 Grand Central Ave. , Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Bill Brown officiating, with visitation one hour prior.
A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2 pm, Dowtain Chapel Cemetery in Nettie, WV. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vienna Baptist Church Blessings of Hope or FaithLink, 1037 Market Street Parkersburg, WV 26101, would be appreciated.
