Sylvia A. Barnett was born February 17, 1950 to William C. and Mary Ellen Sullivan in Chicago, IL, affectionately known as “Pumpkin” she was one of eighteen children. She departed this life at Joliet Area Community Hospice on Friday, June 15, 2018 with her family by her side. Sylvia at an early age accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at St. Paul M. B. Church under the leadership of the late Rev.

Willie Wright. She served in the ministry for over 40 years in the Choir, on the Usher Board, Beautification Committee, Building Fund Committee, Kitchen Committee, and worked within the Lebanon District. She was always willing to help where needed.

In 1986 Sylvia united in holy matrimony to James Harold Barnett in Joliet, IL. In this 32 years of marriage they were the happiest couple who truly became one. If you saw one you were sure to see the other, they did everything together from traveling, exercising, walking, ministry work, cooking, gardening, and simply sharing their time and talents with others.

Sylvia was employed by Universal Glass, Caterpillar Tractor Company, and retired from Borg Warner Automotive in 2000. Sylvia is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mary Ellen Sullivan; six brothers, Duke, Dudley, Jerome, Dwight, Edwin, Edward; two sisters Sheila, and Ruth. Sylvia is survived by her husband, James Harold Barnett, her children Jerome Sullivan, of Chattanooga, TN, Detra (Michael) Alexander of Joliet, IL, and Dr. William L. Sullivan Sr. (Debra) of Chattanooga, TN, James A. Barnett, Joliet, IL, and Vanessa Barnett, Joliet IL; sisters, Suzette Brown, Loma Sullivan, and Mary (Johnnie) McMillon of Chattanooga, TN, Joylynder Sullivan and Delores Smith of Mooresville, NC; brothers, Charles Sullivan of Galveston TX, Wayne Sullivan, Norman Sullivan, of Chattanooga, TN, John Sullivan of Joliet, IL, in-laws, Frank and Jerri Hudson, Chicago, IL, Jeanetter Graham, Catherine Barnett, Charles and Sharon Barnett, David Barnett, and Marvin and Bernice Barnett all of Mississippi, 18 grandchildren Jonathon (Marina), Shannon (Desiree), Perry, William Jr., Jacob, Juan, Darius, Jalmen, Mico, Javon, Anthony, Kenny, Dominique, Sylvia, Sheila, Dyani, LeAnna, Janae, 20 great grandchildren, and four god-children, Kim Moffett, Trina Williams , Aleshea Johnson (Shaye), and Aiden Robinson, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
