Theodor’s Obituary Mr. Galdi, the son of Agnes Pauline Galdi (Sokasits) and William Emil Galdi, was born July 1, 1940 in Culver City, California. Mr. Galdi attended Culver City Schools, graduating from Culver City High School in 1957. Mr. Galdi entered the U.S. Air Force, serving as an aircraft mechanic at Kirtland.
Air Force Base, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Hamilton Air Force Base, San Rafael California. Upon his release from active duty, Mr. Galdi enrolled in the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Galdi graduated Magna Cum Laude, with Honors with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Government and Economics.
He was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. In the fall of 1965, Mr. Galdi was accepted at the Johns Hopkins School of International Studies as a Woodrow Wilson fellow. After attending one year in Washington, D.C. and one year at the Johns Hopkins Center, Bologna, Italy, he received a Master of Arts degree in International Relations and International Economics.
Mr. Galdi married Martha E. Marshall in November 1965, subsequently ending in divorce. Mr. Galdi returned to Albuquerque, N.M. and was employed as a Management Analyst at the Veterans Administration Regional Office for one year. Following this, he returned to Cambridge, MA, and Washington, D.C. to pursue further graduate work.
Mr. Galdi became employed by the Foreign Affairs and National Defense Division of the Congressional Research Service in the Library of Congress in 1970. Mr. Galdi was Specialist in International Political Economy until he attended the National War College in 1989 – 1990. After this he was a Specialist in International Security.
Mr. Galdi served on the Board of Governors of the Congressional Research Employees Association (CREA) for three years, and was President the year the Association negotiated its first labor contract with the Library. Mr. Galdi lived in Silver Spring, MD from 1977 until he moved to Bayfield County, WI in 2001. Upon retirement, Mr. Galdi purchased land in Bayfield County and helped build the house that he designed for his love, Nancy Willett, a daughter of Wisconsin.
Mr. Galdi has always had an interest in mechanical things and in addition to repairing cars, he was building a Zenith CH750 two seat aircraft. Mr. Galdi’s avocations were bicycling in the summer and skiing or snow shoeing in the winter. He enjoyed studying and observing the natural world and hunting on his land.
Mr. Galdi was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), and the National Rifle Association. He is survived by two half brothers, Phillip L Galdi of North Hollywood, California, and Frederic R. Galdi of Woodland Hills, California. Both parents and a sister, Lia Janis Galdi has predeceased him.
He is survived by the love of his life and companion of 39 years, Nancy Jean Willett of Mason, WI. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. at the Frost Home for Funerals in Ashland, with Rev. Julie Burmeister officiating.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Frost Home for Funerals is assisting the family with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to The Salvation Army of Superior WI or Regional Hospice Services, Ashland, WI.
