LeRoy’s Obituary LeRoy Edward Lee, passed away peacefully March 25. LeRoy “Lee” was born on January 28, 1940 in Erskine, MN. He was a graduate of Edina High School and proudly played for the Edina Hornet hockey team.

Lee served on active duty in the United States Coast Guard before attending Augsburg College, where he was the captain of the hockey team. He married Mary Carol “Micki” Stewart in 1964 and they moved to Ashland in 1967, where he purchased North Wisconsin Abstract Company from his father-in-law, which he owned and operated until his retirement. He was instrumental in raising money toward building Ashland’s first indoor rink, the Bay Area Civic Center and his efforts led to him being selected as the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year in 1985.

His years of dedication to developing the hockey program resulted in his induction to the Wisconsin Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998. He enjoyed his retirement years at the family cabin in Barnes, where he loved to read, work on projects, and spend time on the lake and outdoors with his family and friends. He had deep respect for wildlife and looked forward to hunting season every year.

He made many memorable hunting trips with friends and family to South Dakota, Alaska and Canada. He strongly embraced his Norwegian heritage and incorporated it into his daily activities and conversations. He is preceded in death by his parents, Olaf and Hazel Lee, his brother, Dwight and his mother and father-in-law, Jeremiah and Carol Stewart.

He will be greatly missed by his wife of 55 years, Micki; his son, Brian (Jill Heino); his grandchildren, Nicholas and Madeline and his daughter Krisanne Korbein (Paul) and Paul’s children, Thomas, Anna and Charlie. Also survived by his Aunts, Iona Berry and Dolly Robbins (Will); his brothers-in-law, Richard Stewart (Marie), David Stewart (Romie) and Robert Stewart (Sue); special cousin/brother Orin Lee (Carolyn) and many other cousins, nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. Services will be held on Saturday, April 13th at Roberts Funeral Home in Ashland, WI. Visitation beginning at 11:30, service at 1 PM, with a reception following the service at the Bay Area Civic Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Leroy Lee Memorial Fund, which will be used to benefit Ashland Youth Hockey.
