Schaeffer 71, of Drums, died Friday morning, February 22, at Providence Place Retirement Community. Born in Wilkes Barre, May 5, 1947 he was the son of the late Conrad and Dorothy (Thomas) Schaeffer. He was a retired equipment operator out of construction union IUOE 542.

Thomas Served in the Navy during the Vietnam War and continued his service in the Seabees Reserves until 1994. He was a member of the Mountain Top VFW, Port and Starboard with the Naval Reserves, Butler Fire Company and Masons. He enjoyed history and belonged to the Preservers of the Past Antiques Equipment Club and Conyngham Historical Society.

Thomas was also a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ. He is preceded in death in addition to his parents, by his niece Lisa Kotch. Surviving are his sister Janet Balliet of Drums; brother Paul Schaeffer of Cresent City, California; daughter Tami Strippel of Hummelstown; nephew Matt Balliet; and four great nephews Benjamin, Alexander, Nathaniel and Jacob.

A funeral service will be held Friday at 10:00 A.M. from the Butler Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home, Inc., 530 West Butler Drive, Drums. Interment will follow in the St. John’s Cemetery, Drums. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. Memorial Donations are welcomed by the family to the following; St. John’s United Church of Christ, 772 St. Johns Rd St. Johns PA.
