Thomas Dwight Browning, 89, of Oakland, MD was welcomed into heaven on May 18, 2019. Born December 7, 1929, in Oakland, he was the son of Cheston Harry Browning and Abbie Vansant (Chance) Browning. Tom is survived by his wife of 63 years, Juanita (Beckman) Browning and their children, Michael Browning and wife Bethany, Nancy Lewis and husband Rick, Dave Browning and wife Teresa.

Also surviving are grandchildren, Stacy Stogran and husband Tyke, Jonathan Browning and wife Kelly, Christopher Browning and wife Katie, Eric Browning and wife Stephanie, JoAnn Lewis, Rebecca Whitehair and husband Jon, and Austin Browning. Great grandchildren: Lexi Browning, Leah Browning, Landon Browning, Rozlyn Cramer, Ellison Browning, Payson Whitehair, Hunter Whitehair, Hutson Browning and Pierson Browning as well as a multitude of well-loved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, his sisters Helen Louise Browning, Rebecca Vansant O’Hara and Elizabeth Chance Browning, and his brothers, Cheston Harry Browning, Robert Eugene Browning, Donald McClellen Browning and John Richard Browning as well as his son, Brian Patrick Browning.

Tom handled most of the bookkeeping for the family business started by his father and continued with his brothers in what became known as Browning’s Foodland. After years of serving in that capacity, Tom established his own business named Hometown Market which was a deli and convenience store. His love of others and the community was well demonstrated in his becoming a Paul Harris Fellow through the Oakland Rotary Club, a Sixty Year Member of the Masonic Lodge, a former EMT with the Southern Garrett County Rescue Squad, Mountaintop Promenaders, Senior Citizens Bowling league , PTA president, and Cubmaster.

In addition to this, Tom was a faithful and committed member of St Paul’s United Methodist Church serving in various ways throughout his lifetime as well as a quiet but strong demonstration of his love and compassion for his family, Christ and Community. A viewing is scheduled for May 20, 2019 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 PM at Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, MD, 21550. A funeral is scheduled for May 21 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

Rev. Matthew Paugh will officiate the ceremony. Friends will be received one hour prior to the service.
