Van Paul Thomas, age 84, of Sanford, NC, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was born in Lee County on October 10, 1933 to the late Hampton Thomas and Irene Gilmore Thomas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Ruby Thomas Stuart, Mildred Thomas, Magdalene Thomas Moody, Alfred Thomas, Jake Thomas, Lucille Thomas Darroch, Hampton Jr. Thomas, Claude Thomas, Fred Thomas, Polly Thomas Hobbs and Jean Thomas Wicker.

Van served his country in the North Carolina National Guard. He worked for many years as a roofer with Baker Roofing, Ed Garner Roofing and retiring from King Roofing. He is survived by two daughters, Mary Van Thomas Griffin and husband, Robby of Sanford and Darlene Thomas Wilson and husband, Roland; one brother, Larry Thomas of Sanford; three nieces, Carol Sloan and son, Dalton, Bonnie Bryant and husband, David and Robin Satterfield; three grandchildren, Erin Griffin Best, Elisabeth Griffin McLean and Christina Parker; great-grandchildren, Hannah Bray and Raelyn Smith and one great-great-grandchild, Pressley Bray.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Buffalo Cemetery with Chaplain Sam Garris officiating.
